SUNDAY SCHOOL

Hornerstown Baptist Church Believes that the Sunday School hour is an imperative work in our
ministry. For the Sunday School hour is where believers can be furthered equipped in the faith
with biblical teaching and theology. What distinguishes the Sunday School from the service is
the classroom setting. For, it allows the people to ask their questions, explore points of teaching with deeper insights and practical applications, and engage with other believers in the room, all to sharpen one another (Prov. 27:17). Overall, through the Sunday School, we want to communicate the necessity of a Christian’s study of the Bible themselves, and to further assist them in the reading of the Scriptures, in order that they’re able to clearly understand the contents of what they read. Below is a forum of possible questions about it.

WHERE AND WHEN DOES SUNDAY SCHOOL TAKE PLACE?
We meet in our church’s education building, which is located directly next to the church
Sanctuary. The official start time is 11:30, but due to transitions from Sunday Service, and
attendees getting coffee, occasionally class won’t start until 11:45. And we wrap up sometime
between 12:15-12:30.

WHAT DO I BRING TO CLASS?
Your Personal Bible, a Notebook, and a Pen. Once again, we encourage everyone to study the
Scriptures themselves and follow along with the lesson, and the best way we can do that is
notetaking. If any of these items are forgotten, the church will supply you with them.

WHAT ARE THE LESSONS LIKE?
Ultimately, our classes teach the Christian Faith, contained in the Scriptures, and expressed
within our Baptist Tradition and Heritage. Underneath this heading our classes can cover the
Church’s Doctrinal Statement and Constitution, Specific books of the Bible, Church History,
Hermeneutics (How to read the Bible), along with more practical subjects like: Parenting,
Marriage, Roles of Male and Female, Christian’s and Local Gov’t, Christians and Careers/Work,
etc…

WHO TEACHES THE CLASS?
The class is taught, usually by one teacher, but multiple different people can fill this role.
Sometimes the Pastor teaches, other times a Deacon teaches, or anyone desirous of teaching the
bible can be given an opportunity to teach the class and improve their skills.
